Honghe River Basin Ethnic Cultural Tourism Resources Development

"Restarting the tourism industry" in Yunnan Province necessitates a notion of large tourism in planning the prospective development and in exploiting profoundly the tourism resources in this area. The Yunnan part of Red River Drainage Area is characterized by rich tourism resources in terms of ethnic cultures, diverse in forms and distinct in quality. Due to the striking vertical climate, this area is of remarkable biological diversity. In addition, its neighborhood to some Southeastern Asian countries like Vietnam, Thailand suggests an advantageous position to jointly exploit the tourism resources profoundly with these neighbor countries along the Red River thereby forming a "Red River Tourism Corridor". In this light, this paper begins with the insistence that the exploitation of ethnic culture tourism be the maple one of the Yunnan's sustainable development strategies. And the key points of this paper read as follows:To begin with, this paper generalizes the discoveries in the exploitation of the ethnic culture tourism resources made by precedent researchers, proposing that the exploitation of ethnic cultural tourism resources be established on certain theoretical consideration and emphasizing its peculiarity.Second, this paper conducts a thorough survey of the ethnic cultural resources along the Red River valley with a classification and distinction of them, focusing on analyzing and evaluating the culture of the colorful-waistband Daizu People in Yuxi Municipality and the agrarian culture embodied in Hani People's terraced fields in Honghe Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. And the peculiar traits of the ethnic cultures along the Red River Reaches are thus categorized.Third, the paper conducts a SWOT analysis of the ethnic cultural resources along the Red River Drainage Area. With an affirmative tone, the paper further points out the necessity and priority in exploiting the ethnic cultural resources along the Red River Drainage Area, proposes a general outline and strategy in this respect and recommends some scenic spots of high quality and great potential, attempting to turn the peculiar tourism resources into relevant tourism products.Fourth, this paper suggests related measures and policies for this tourism program. Finally, based on some conclusive ideas, this paper lists the relevant issues needing further study in the future.
