The Development Of China's Textile And Garment Industry, Textile Integration

Textile trade issue is all along a sensitive topic in the trade between developed countries and developing countries. From 1960s, initiated by some developed countries, such as Europe and America, quota system had been carried out in international textile trade. This was against the principle and spirit of GAIT and distorted free trade, which is unfair to the developing countries in which textile industry is the preponderant industry. With the constant strive and struggle of the developing countries, Agreement on Textile and Clothing had been reached. According to the agreement, on January 1, 2005, globe textile trade quota was cancelled and the integration of international textile trade came true.With the free development of international textile trade environment, Chinese textile industry as traditional preponderant industry has got continuous development and it has developed rapidly especially after Chinese entry to WTO. The realization of textile integration has brought a favorable developing opportunity to Chinese textile industry as well as makes it face a more complicated international and domestic trade environment. How to handle the domestic and foreign difficulties and challenges and improve the industry competitive power becomes a burning question. Therefore, the research on the influence of textile integration on Chinese textile industry and relative department has inevitably become a new important project.In this thesis, I begin with giving a brief review of the historical process of textile integration. After that, I make a deep analysis of Chinese natural resources and raw materials advantage in developing textile industry and the new favorable developing opportunity brought by textile integration. Then I lay an emphasis on the analysis of the domestic and foreign challenges Chinese textile industry faces under the background of textile integration. On the basis of the analysis, I put forward some suggestions, exploring to strengthen Chinese textile industry competitive power through the common efforts of government, trade organization and enterprises to achieve a sustainable development of Chinese textile industry.
