The article analyzes the history of Chinese foreign trade system and the revolution, survival and development of state-owned foreign trade companies against changing external environment. With SWOT analysis of the status quo, threats, problems, advantages and possible opportunities of state-owned foreign trade companies, it has become a logical trend for such companies to accelerate strategic transition and seek survival, especially after China's accession to the WTO.Then the article introduces the management theory of strategic transition of state-owned foreign trade companies, analyzes the basic methods of transition and the transition process.Referring to related practical and academic researches and the status quo of state-owned foreign trade companies, the article proposes the following modes of strategic transition: special service mode, industrialization mode, comprehensive business mode and multinational mode.The article also gives a detailed description of the initial success of strategic transition of Sinochem, the largest foreign trade company in China and summarizes its experiences.Finally the article draws the conclusion that state-owned foreign trade companies can make successful strategic transition and suggests that those companies choose suitable modes, accelerate ownership reform and insist to innovation. |
