Knowledge intensive business service(KIBS) are those private companies or organizations who rely heavily on professional knowledge and supplying intermediate products and services which are knowledge based (Miles, 1995). Now the innovation activities of KIBS have becoming one of the most important issues in innovation research field. The fact that service innovation differentiates from technology innovation makes for much differents between the two innovation organizations that have innovation activies on its' shoulder. For the poupse to excogitate different characteristics between different kinds of KIBS sectors, we focus on the analysis of the consequence between structure of service innovation organization and innovation performance.Service innovation involves service concept innovation, service process innovation and clients' interface innovation. Because service innovation is more fargoing and requests much intenser interaction with clients than technology innovation, it has more informal or temporary innovation organizations that have self-management control mechanism and exoteric boundary. Then, based on theory of team structure, we propose that self-leadership, interdependence and boundary penetrability are three important dimensions that characterize the structure of service innovation organization.Structure and performance are related with someway. Structural characteristics of innovation organization combine to affect innovation interaction between members in innovation processes, which in turn influence innovation performance. Innovation ineraction which is the mediate variable between structure and performance of innovation organization can be decomposed to task-oriented interaction and social-oriented interaction according to the 'task-social' oriented dimension. Considering the continuity of innovation actvities, we suggest to involve personal growing performance into innovation performance. Otherwise, based on organizational contingency theory, we find the revealed pattern of 'standardisation-particularisation' in the output of the service provides or service produce pattern a useful taxonomy of service activities and innovation processes in services. So the knowledge intensive business service sectors can be divided into standardistion KIBS and particularization KIBS extremely. However, our analysis also confirms that KIBS are tremendously diverse both between and within sectors.Empirical analysis indicates the service produce pattern which devides KIBSsectors into 'standardisation-particularisation' oriented types, is a successful categorical variable in this research. In particularization KIBS firms, the levels of self-leadership and boundary penetrability are positive related with innovation performance, but just self-leadership degree is related with innovation performance when it happens in standardistion KIBS. One the one hand, it implies self-management control mechanism has become a common character in innovation organization, on the other hand, the result also confirms that there are intense clients interaction in innovation processes of particularization KIBS.Finaly, policy implications are outlined based on analytical result. Then, research conclusions are summarized and future research directions are also noted.
