Our national economy grows continuously with rapid rate at present. The total amount of import and export skyrocketed these years, especially for the export. How about the performance of SMEs which are weak but abundant in amount? This article is just an analysis about this issue. It gives brief information about product structure, industry characteristics, market distribution, main channel and functions of SME in export. It makes analysis to the major problems and its reasons, and then the opportunities and challenges that SME are facing. Finally, it provides some suggestions, i.e., developing international market and avoiding export risks.For the aspect of developing international market, on the one hand, SMEs are suggested to be familiar with the laws, regulations and agreements either bilateral or multilateral pertinent to international trade; pay close attention to the policies on import at home and on export in the target markets; on the other hand, the SMEs should build up its competitive advantage by investing heavily into continuous technology developing and researching and manufacture state-of the-art products; make deep research on target markets. Guided by industry association and chamber of commerce, groups of SMEs go out for product market.For the aspect of avoiding export risks, SMEs are suggested to be active in changing their mind and building up risk appraisal and control system, developing multi-markets to scatter risks and purchasing insurance to transfer risks.
