Research On The Key Technologies Of Guiding Thematic Mapping

In this new geography information period, maps are more and more popularly used in every application field. As an important part of map group, thematic maps also extend its fuction. Nowadays, data resources are abundant and there are many ways to get information. Therefore,people want to make maps with the interested data, the designing and making of thematic map is facing popularization of users. However, because of the fact that current thematic mapping software is too professional as well as people who are short of mapping knowledge, making maps becomes more difficult. In an attempt to present some methods to intelligent and automatic thematic mapping, this paper analyzed the existing problems, then introduced the concept of guiding thematic mapping, and researched on the theories and techniques about thematic map. Firstly, this paper summarized the theory foundation of thematic mapping, and studied on the related concepts and characteristics.Secondly, it summed up the using rules and cooperation principles of thematic map representations. Then based on the research actuality, this paper established the choosing representation process in the thematic mapping system.Thirdly, it pointed out the insufficiency of data classification in common mapping software, then introduced the guiding thematic data classification mode. The key steps of classification were explained in detail.Meanwhile, this paper set up a template base for thematic mapping, and designed kinds of templates parametrically. It also researched on the cooperation of different templates.What's more, a guiding thematic mapping prototype system was designed and realized to validate the relation work. At last, this paper summarized the research results and put forward the existing problems to further study.
