Nowadays, with growing of the economy, the development of the ocean is paid much more attention by many coastal countries all over the world. The marine economy is increasingly become the important part of the national economy, and there are more and more marine projects appearing around the coastal areas. Since the dredging project is one of the most important marine projects, the effect of the dredging project on marine resources and environment is increasingly concerned. The dredging project of Shanwei Power Plant includes basin dredging and channel dredging. Some of the dredged mud is planned to fill the land, and the rest of the mud is cast to the designated area--temporary dumping area. The temporary dumping area is located in the sensitive area of the Jieshi Bay, where nears tourism area, culture zones, artificial fish shelter and ecological reserve. Therefore, studying the effect of the dredging project on Jieshi environment has important theoretical and practical significance for environmental protection and the sustainable development of marine resources.Based on the analysis of the measured current and three-dimensional flow field numerical simulation, three-dimensional advection-diffusion model of sediment was applied to simulate the marine environmental impact generated by the dredging project, and then predicted the effect of the dredging project on the water quality, sediment and ecological environment in the study. The prediction results showed that the dredging project had little effect on water and sediment, except that the suspended solid of the dumping area increased a lot. The plankton and benthic animals were caused short-term effects, which could gradually recover when the dumping activity finished. In this paper, a series of studies were done during pre-dredging, dredging and after dredging. The results indicated that the dredging project could affect marine ecological environment, especially the petroleum and suspended solid. The concentration of copper and zinc were affected in a certain degree; the number and species of the plankton decreased because of dredging project. In a word, the predictive analysis on the effect of dredging project on the environment is consistent with the studied results.
