At present,the application of 3D CAD and CAE based on 3D model has become mature in terms of product design. But theoretical studies and practical applications of 3D model-based 3D IAPR are now just in the preliminary stage. Traditional papery assembly process documents using verbal description and 2D CAD graphic illustration to instruct assembly are not just less visualized but also affect the accuracy of process information transfer.3D IAPR system is researched and developed in light of the above situations, aiming to provide users working at assembly site with visual and complete guiding information for assembly, thus improving assembly efficiency and quality. This is of great significance in reducing product's development costs, shortening production cycle and strengthening market competitiveness.On the basis of systematic studies on the fundamental theories of virtual assembly technology,CAPP technology and IETM technology and their development at home and abroad,in line with assembly process publishing demands and the current development trends of 3D CAD,this paper addresses the detailed design of and study on 3D IAPR's function modules by employing interactive 3D simulation,database,information release and other techniques and presents 3D IAPR's overall frame,structure and implementation methods.During the process of 3D IAPR's R&D,certain more effective methods responsive to specific demands are proposed,and this system is proved and realized through 3D IAPR's R&D for gear reducer. 3D IAPR system is successfully developed on the platform of VC++6.0. This system is made of such four major functional modules as the product structure tree PPR, the assembly process information display, 3D scene display window, the progress bar and function buttons. Thereby the publication of assembly process based on interactive 3D scene is achieved.In summary,the prototype system based on the assembly process for a reducer is developed through the study on the structure and key technologies of 3D IAPR in this paper. And the research outcomes will strongly support further and integrated progress in design and production of full-3D digital assembly process.
