In recent years, as the increasingly widespread use of plastic products, injection mold has become an important production tool in the area of householde appliance, automobile and so on. Front shell is a main composition of panel TV set, therefore the research and design efficiency of mold for front shell has a significant impact on the TV set market competition. However, because of the structural complexity of panel TV set and high surface quality requirement on it, the mold structure of panel TV set is very complicated, and the work of mold parting, running system design and lifter design becomes the focus and difficulty of the entire design process, which takes designers a long time to finish it. So there is a high engineering value for designing a CAD system of injection mold for front shell of panel TV set.Firstly, the article analyzes the structural and design characteristics of injection mold for front shell of panel TV set, and proposes an thinking of standardization and configuration of mold structure. After that, a standard mold parts library is established, and two profiles being used to control the parts information is designed subsequently. Then the entire mold design process is divided into semi-automatic parting step and automatically rapid design of mold structure. Considering the structural and process characteristics of front shell of panel TV set, a parting idea of separating work piece with parting sheets is proposed, and a series of key parting technologies are designed for it, such as searching transition parting lines between main parting lines, searching parting sheets recursively with seed / boundary surface method, and so on. According to the thinking of standardized mold structure, the mold is divided into six modules, which are mold base, running system, temperature control system, lift system, eject system and other affixes; and then functions of rapidly generating and pocketing mold structure are designed with the previous technology of profile.According to the above studies, a rapid design system of injection mold for front shell of panel TV set based on UG is developed here. With the use of this system, designers can finish the design by following procedure: Firstly select a model of front shell as the target, adjust the position and initialize the assembly structure; Secondly parting the adjusted mold target quickly; and at last, generate standard parts of each module automatically and pocket for each module subsequently. The system provides a rapid design method for injection mold design of the serial products, which increases the design efficiency and mold quality greatly for mold enterprises.
