Computer aided design and manufacturing technology(CAD/CAM),which has provided enterprises great profits for decades,has been widely used in the field of injection mold design and manufacture.However,some injection mold manufacturer still suffered from inefficiency and inconvenience when applying general CAD/CAM systems during their design and machine operations because these software systems were not developed specifically for injection mold application.In order to improve the efficiency of design and manufacture stages,and consequently raise enterprises' market competition and upgrade industrial processes,a rapid design and manufacturing system for injection mold was developed to solve the above-mentioned problems for relevant companies.The research and development work of this paper consisted of the following three parts.Initially,a comprehensive analysis of enterprise's requirement has been performed according to the characteristics of the injection mold design and manufacturing processes.The commonly used UG CAD/CAM system has also been investigated and selected as the development platform for this work.The general architecture of this paper has been established using Visual Studio 2010 as the development tool combined with UG APP development toolkit.Furthermore,from the perspective of improving efficiency of mold design,an extendable mold components library was established in order to rapidly import and parametrically edit component model of injection mold.Through the extraction of geometry information of parts from components library,the engineering drawings can be generated automatically.Finally,from the perspective of improving the efficiency of injection mold manufacturing,this work made great efforts on automatic generation of NC program for mold cavity EDM electrode.According to the relationship between geometrical features and the manufacturing process of the electrode,a template was built up to realize the rapid programming of NC for machining tool electrode.The developed system has been applied successfully in Nanjing Huage Electronics & Automobile Plastic Industry Co.Ltd,and proved to be capable of improving the efficiency of mold design and manufacture significantly.
