Polypropylene is one of the fastest growing products in synthetic resin. But there are many risk factors in process of polypropylene plant. It is critical to improve process safety for ensuring operation safe and stability. This article uses Dow's Fire and Explosion Index Hazard ClassificationCode,7th edition to evaluate main units of polypropylene plant. Because the polymerization unit is most dangerous, it selects HAZOP analysis on the deviations of temperature, pressure and flow rate to identify risk factors in the process and applies ALOHA software on simulating the range of dispersion and explosion effects of propylene. On this basis it has conducted in the research of process safety technology and process safety management to improve process safety. In terms of process safety technology, it proposes improvement programmes of instrument safety controlling and process improvement of catalyst precontacting pot temperature controlling.In terms of process safety management, referring to OHSA regulations of process safety management,it identifies current problems in process safety management at this stage and suggests improvement and methods.
