Metal-organic coordination polymers have attracted much attention due to their intriguing structural topologies as well as their fascinating potential application in the areas of catalytic propertie, gas storage, absorption, ions exchange, sensors and the development of optical, electronicd and magnetic devices. An effective and facile approach for the syntheses of such complexes is still the appropriate choice of well-designed organic ligands as bridges or terminal groups with metal ions or metal clusters as nodes. In this thesis, we chose 3-(4-(carboxymethoxy)phenyl) propanoic acid as original ligand coordinating with metal ions and synthesized a series of ID,2D and 3D coordination polymers by hydrothermal methods. They are shown as following:[Pr2L3(H2O)2]n·0.5nH2O (1)[NiL(bpp) (H2O)0.5]n (2)[CoL(bpp)(H20)0.5]n (3)[ZnL(bpp)]n·nH2O (4)[CdL(bpp)]n (5)[Zn2L(bpp)2(Cl)2]n (6)[NiL(4,4'-bipy)(H2O)]n (7)[ZnL(4,4'-bipy)]n (8)[ZnL(4,4'-bipy)(H2O)2]n (9)[NiL(4,4'-bipy)(H2O)2]n (10)[CoL(4,4'-bipy)(H2O)2]n (11) Polymers were characterized by IR, elementary analysis, thermogravimetric and X-ray single crystal diffraction. Luminescence, magnetism were studied for some polymers. It was also investigated how to control the assembly of coordination polymers with desired properties. Moreover, the relation between structure and property was discussed.
