The Research On The Folk Pastry Mold

Traditional crafts are important parts of Chinese splendid cultural heritage. And traditional wood carving is related to daily lives of people in every aspect. The civilization of human has been developing step by step forward along with the laboring of human hands, presenting unique scene of colorful culture.In this paper, the mold for making pastry that is closely related to the food culture in China is researched and explored. The mold for pastry, which is a folk instrument to make pastry and moon cake and is a category of folk engraving crafts, has been used for hundreds of years. Through collecting and visiting, I obtained some pastry molds and the related material about it. And the origins, materials and artistic features of mold have been investigated to find out the reasons why pastry mold is worth researching are:(1) Pastry mold has a long history and rich connotations of folk culture. (2) The pattern and shape of pastry mold are various. (3) Along with changing times, the molds with researching value are growing scare. (4) The decorative patterns of mold are imbued with unique cultural and historical meaning. And the ornamentations of it are delicate and beautiful. (5) The collecting value of pastry mold, which is paid more and more attention to by collectors, is increasing. Through the investigation of folk pastry mold, I try to present some enlightenment for the transmission and protection of traditional culture.This paper is divided into five parts:The first chapter is about the background of choosing this topic, the researching purpose and methods. In the second chapter, the history of folk pastry mold is outlined and the basic classification of it is presented. The content of chapter three is the study on the artistic features of folk pastry mold, which is the main part of this paper. The forth chapter is the in-depth study on the geographical features and protecting value of folk pastry mold. The fifth chapter is the summary and suggestions about the transmission and protection of our cultural heritage.
