Removal of liquid, i.e. solid/liquid separation, is required in the mining industry, metal processing, chemical industry and in preparation processes of foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals, for example. There are various filtering apparatuses using different operating principles for this purpose. A continuous rotary pressure filter which has used in chemical industry and pharmaceuticals has received good response.This paper describes the structure design and calculation of rotary pressure filter. Structure design includes the design of drum, housing, control head, cell insert, separating element, cake discharge and filter cloth-washing. Arrangement drawing and parts drawing are completed, the material are indentified too; according to the drawing, this paper simulates the 3-D structure of the rotary pressure filter to display its working situation; a kind of filter cloth is indentified for the filter, and the paper illustrates the cloth's performance and working-environment. The calculation includes how to adjust the speed of the drum, the production capacity (the mount of cake producing in an hour) of the filter, identification of the usage of washing liquid and drying gas. Using the software of ANSYS, the paper evaluates the thermal-stress of the filter. Its strength was confirmed to the pressure vessel design standard JB4732-1995 Steel Pressure Vessel-Design by Analysis. The effect of the filter on temperature and press is discussed.
