With the rapid development of modern cutting technology, the application of high-speed cutting technology has developed widely. High-speed cutting machines, cutting tools, control equipment and test equipment also get their development. The production process technologies of automobile manufacturing play a remarkable effect in high-speed cutting. Therefore it is very important to choose cutting method and proper cutting parameters. It is of great significance to choose high-speed cutting parameters of alloy cast iron material for engine cylinder.During the high speed cutting process of alloy cast iron, because of the impact of the cutting force, cutting temperature and tool wear, the service life of the cutting tool can not be utilized well. It is an urgent problem to improve the tool's performance in high-speed cutting.In this paper, based on metal cutting theories, the current situation of high-speed cutting technology, mechanism of the chip formation, the source of the cutting force, and the generation and distribution of the temperature are firstly discussed. The key technologies of modeling in high-speed cutting are summarized, and key techniques of the finite element modeling and simulations of high-speed cutting of alloy cast iron material, including the establishment of finite element equations, Johnson-Cook models of workpiece materials, methods to building up element grids, chip separation, material fracture, the contact friction model, the generation of heat and residual stresses and strains, are studied. Then an two-dimensional orthogonal cutting model of alloy cast iron is established, and the processes of metal cutting are simulated at the different cutting speeds and feeds, the formation of the segmented chip is studied and presented. The influence of the cutting parameters in high-speed cutting of Alloy Cast Iron on the tool's performance is also discussed 1. Moreover, the performances both the coated and uncoated tools are analyzed and compared. The more reasonable high-speed cutting parameters of Cr15Mo alloy cast iron material have been obtained. The results of simulation agree with experimental ones.This paper has studied on the principal of alloy cast iron in high-speed cutting. It shows that the reasonable milling parameters of high-speed cutting of alloy cast iron can be obtained by using the finite element simulation.
