Male silkworm cocoons are appreciated for high cocoon shell percentage and good raw silk taste. As the first procedure in silk making industry, Cocoon Drying immediately concerns the improvement of cocoon quality and silk production percentage and has a vital bearing on the following procedures of cocoon cooking and silk reeling. Temperature and relative humidity are two main factors that affect quality of cocoon drying. In current cocoon drying equipments, no matter traditional baking chambers or new drying machines, there are not humidity meters, and the temperature measuring instruments installed are confined to fixed point measurement.The author's research mainly includes renovating the measuring system in his research room, consecutively measuring temperature and humidity in the whole cocoon drying course with the help of the improved system, and analyzing the cocoon drying process according to the measurement data and relative professional knowledge. Improved measuring system consists of measurer, RS-232 serial communication interface, cocoon drying software and VBA program. They are respectively responsible for data acquisition, data transmitting, data receiving & processing, and data collecting. In the laboratory, not only the new system's calibration experiment and insulating performance test are conducted, but also the cocoon drying simulation is carried out. With the improved system, measurement and analysis for temperature and humidity in cocoon drying process are implemented to find out the existing problems. After taking some measures, perform measurement again to check the effects achieved.Improved measuring system has high accuracy and good insulation property. Some problems emerge from fixed point measurement in current cocoon drying equipment. The new system can realize consecutive measurement for the whole cocoon drying course, and reflect practical fluctuations and distribution differences of temperature & humidity inside cocoon drying equipments. It provides a premise and a basis for taking effective measures to ensure reasonable technology configuration of temperature and humidity. In addition, it is propitious to improve the quality of cocoon drying and makes good groundwork for cocoon cooking and silk reeling.
