In the last ten years, more and more new chitosan textiles have been developed, but those products more focused on the process of mixing the chitosan fiber and other fibers. At present, there are few researches on the pure chitosan fiber products. Chitosan fibers possess excellent biomedical characteristics, such as good biocompatibility, biodegradability and antibacterial property, the good effect of resistance to infection and blood coagulation. It also has many kinds of physiological functions, including healing wound, adjusting blood fat and cholesterol, enhancing the immune and antitumor activity and so on. The spunlace non wovens ha ve a series of advantages, such as soft hand, healthy, no hairiness and producing simply, etc. However, the combing and reinforcement process of chitosan fibers exist many difficulties, the investigation of chitosan fibers spunlace nonwovens are of great significance.This paper chooses the chitosan fiber as the material and does the following four aspects:Firstly, it studies the mechanical properties and chemical properties of the chitosan fiber, focusing on the mechanical, hydroscopic, crimp, coefficient and friction, electricity property. Next, the chitosan fibers and polyester fibers mixed spunlace nonwovens have been developed. Through design and study of process of combing and spunlace, we found the situation of fibers in the fiber web and entanglement and reinforcement of the chitosan fiber in the process of spunlace. Besides, by calculating the spunlace energy, we studied that the spunlace energy impacts on products of the chitosan fiber. Then, the important performances of the chitosan fibers and polyester fibers mixed spunlace nonwovens were analyzed which include mechanical properties, bending rigidity, moisture vapour transmission, water absorbability, water dissolution content, surface activity content, PH value, fluorescence content. Finally, the pure chitosan fiber spunlace nonwovens and the composite nonwovens comprising the pure chitosan fiber spunlace nonwovens and silk/viscose spunlace nonwovens have been developed.This paper obtained the following result from the above studies:(1) The chitosan fiber has good absorbent quality and large coefficient, resistanceto alkali but no resistance to acid, good friction. There are some disadvantages such as bad mechanical properties and crimp, big mass specific resistance. (2) Because of static electricity of chitosan fibers, the fiber easily adhered machine in the process of combing. At the beginning, we must do antistatic treatments and the humidity of workshops should be maintained at high level.The study found that as long as the chitosan fiber added to a certain amount of polyster fibers, the effect of carding can be improved.(3) The chitosan fibers and polyester fibers mixed spunlace nonwovens possess good performances o f moisture vapour transmission a nd e ach chemical performance index attained the medical industry standard.However, the mechanical properties of them are not good and they are hard to the feel.(4) The pure chitosan fiber spunlace nonwovens and the composite nonwovens comprising the pure chitosan fiber spunlace nonwovens and silk/viscose spunlace nonwovens possess good mechanica and chemical properties, bacteriostatic effect. They have passed the toxicology of safety evaluation.The paper provides industrial production for reference in the chitosan fiber spunlace nonwovens.
