Polyisobutylene succinic ester emulsifier is one surface-active polymer, containing a long carbon-chain hydrophobic moiety and hydrophilic polyol, by cyclic anhydride the above-mentioned moieties are connected. This emulsifier has excellent emulsifying ability, can improve the storage ability of emulsion explosive. At present, much attention had been attached to succinic pentaerythritol ester, little literature are found on sugar alcohols.This thesis focused on modifying Polyisobutylene succinic anhydride (PIBSA) by esterification with different polyols in order to produce excellent performance emulsifier with high hydroxyl value. Adopt hydroxyl value as the surface-active content of product, the direct esterification and purification of emulsifier are studied, also the emulsifier was characterized by IR analysis; moreover the surface chemistry properties were investigated, then used in emulsion explosive to dicuss their storage stabilities, as follows:The technology of direct esterfication synthesis and purification with saturated sodium chloride solution are applied in this thesis, use sorbitol and xylitol as polyol, polyisobutylene succinic sorbitol ester and xylitol ester are obtained. The optimum reaction condition of sorbitol ester is n(PIBSA):n(sorbitol)=1:1.2, m(xylene):m(reactants)=60%, with temperature of 140-150℃, the highest hydroxyl value with 51.7 mgKOH/g are obtained; the optimum reaction condition of xylitol ester is n(PIBSA):n(xylitol)=1:1.0, m(xylene):m(reactants)=60%, with temperature of 140-150℃, the highest hydroxyl value with 42.6 mgKOH/g are obtained.The surface tension are tested, results show that products have excellent suface active, wherein the interfacial tension of oil-water is 9.0-10.0 mN/m, providing the possibility of preparation of emulsion explosive; emulsifying ability is improved, wherein sorbitol ester is 170min, xylitol ester is 115min, the above results show that great improvement has been achieved compared to Polyisobutylene succinimide. The HLB number of novel emulsifiers are between 3-6, suitable to use in preparation of emulsion explosive.This thesis prepared emulsion explosive using the above-mentioned emulsifiers according to the exsited emulsion technology, and study their storage ability by the method of recycle of high and low temperature and conductivity method. Results showed that the prepared emulsion explosive with sorbitol ester has good storage ability(8 times), superior to Span80(5 times). Therefore this emulsifier has excellent application prospect.
