Virtual Gear Measuring Center is a computer program which is based on the real Gear Measuring Center, it can not only replace the Gear Measuring Center debugging measurement software but also simulate the actual measurement process in the absence of a real workpiece. Therefore, modeling of the virtual workpiece for Virtual Gear Measuring Center is essential.Based on a full-scale analysis and summary for the current research status and application of virtual coordinate measuring machine and virtual gear measuring center nationally and international, the virtual modeling method of virtual workpiece and the path of getting virtual workpiece are researched for the difficult problem that gear measurement center measurement software is difficult to verify.The functional requirements of the virtual workpiece which must meet the requirements of the virtual gear measuring center are found out by studying and analyzing the frame and the principles of virtual gear measuring center. The virtual workpiece modeling method is found out by the functional requirements of the virtual workpiece.The virtual workpiece model is drew and the STL file is generated by Pro/E, the STL file of virtual workpiece is imported into the virtual gear measuring center by writing computer program using VC++, the method and process of importing the virtual workpiece are verified by an example.Optimizing the ChordHeight parameters is proposed by studying the accuracy of virtual workpiece and the efficiency of modeling virtual workpiece. The measure of optimizing virtual workpiece model which considered precision and efficiency is proposed by actual contrast. The method that avoiding repeatedly reading a triangular facets information is proposed by studying the redundant data of STL file, and the index relation is built up by the 6,r,z coordinates of triangular facets.
