This thesis regards the relationship between vernacular architecture of Ethnic Yi in Ai Laoshan and its social organization as a research object. As far as the current studies of traditional vernacular architecture is concerned, it mainly probes into studies from angle of material environment, space composition, construction and material technology。However, it is rare that investigating vernacular architecture in a social organization perspective. According to personal fieldwork material, apply methods including cultural anthropology method, this thesis begins to study the relationship between social organization and vernacular architecture form, explores reciprocal impact changing way and process on mobility between traditional village social organization (such as, county, religion and etc.) and vernacular architecture.The vernacular architecture of Ethnic Yi in Ai Laoshan is the significant symbol of regional and ethnic culture. Its existence, development and evolvement interact well with the process of ethnic, regional and entire society, which is the result of regional process and entire society process. Moreover, it makes positive contribution in its own way to this process. Due to its inhabited by multi-ethnic groups and its special geography condition, Bo village represents pluralism state. On analysis the relationship between the development of vernacular architecture of Ethnic Yi in Ai Laoshan and social organization, this thesis will give prominence to the interaction among vernacular architecture of Bo village and its county, religion and its family organization, which will reappear the historical trace of vernacular architecture of Ethnic Yi in Bo village and make an acquisition on evolutionary of vernacular architecture.The thesis consists of four parts. The introduction section clarifies the reason of topic selection, concept definition, research status and study approach of the village social organization, and emphatically clear with the relationship among village social organization, clan organizations and residential architecture.The text content mainly includes the following aspects:The first chapter this chapter is bounded in new China liberation, work on the category of vernacular architecture of Ethnic Yi in Bo village in the length of seventy years. In the development of last several decades, the vernacular architecture of Bo village absorbed the characteristic of Ethnic Han and surrounding ethnic architecture culture. Furthermore, the vernacular architecture has brought about new development under the local climate conditions. This paper expounds the three major period which vernacular architecture of Bo village has experienced——thatched cottage, tile-roof house and brick house which is wooden frameworks.The second chapter this chapter mainly bases on describing the essential ingredients of the vernacular architecture space of Ethnic Yi of Bo village in order to analysis the entire space structure and layout of vernacular architecture of Bo village. The architecture and county embody different space and function. Among the space of the vernacular architecture, different idea dominant different behavior thus influences the design and composition of architecture space. In traditional Bo village society, the family life has already patterned, vernacular architecture space and human behavior, the relationship between space usage and space unit, as well as space position will reveal the common pattern.The third chapter this chapter first briefly illustrates the changes of vernicular architecture caused by the village clans'patterns, discusses the relationships among village, clans and vernacular architecture, and then come up with the main argument of the thesis---vernacular architecture is co-production of the village natural environment and the social culture of the clans there and, it is a manifestation of ethnic architecture culture. Later the chapter analyzes the mutual influence between vernacular architecture forms and family structures of ethnic Yi in Bo village from the macro view to micro view and from the group to individuals. The family members of the village family will disperse and expand with the influences of the family scale, intergenerational number and marriage status. As a main material body of the family life, the changes of vernacular architecture are directed manifestations of family changes. With different family lifecycles, the relationships between the family structure changes and the family members influence directly the design of spatial adaptability of vernacular architecture.
