Terrain is the foundation of all buildings to be built, containing a wealth of p laces of memory. People use land in different ways at different stages in the history, and the corresponding behavior is also recorded on the land. Terrain contains material content, and also includes human activity and memory. It not only has both practical and technical capacity to reflect, but also cultural and social reflection. It is an interaction sites of past and present. This special relationship between terrain and people has been interpreted best in the traditional vernacular architecture.Traditional local vernacular architecture is the basic unit of society, is the most representative element of the human habitat. It contains a wealth of man-land relationship, and embodies the wisdom of local ancient people. Topographical study of vernacular architecture mainly study the relationship between terrain and people in the production of vernacular architecture and mechanism and the logic and philosophy of architecture and environment. It taps their inner wisdom and culture and studies the unique terrain pattern in the environment of a particular area.This thesis bases on the rich cultural and ethnic diversity of environmental background of Yunnan, setting Yunnan Red Mile City West Village, a town of ten thousand of Yi (A Xi) vernacular architecture as an object. By using theoretical and cognitive methods cited by the topography of the post, it studies specific natural topography and human terrain, and expands to specific people, human activity, human memory, more complete human experience and other areas. By introducing the time factor, this paper makes the interpretation of vernacular architecture in red and villages of Yi. From two aspects of natural terrain and cultural terrain to explore the formation and the law of a logical development of the vernacular architecture in red and villages, as the foundation and support of the re-creation of vernacular architecture in red square village.
