The phenomenon of aging population becomes a serious problem that we must face. Facilities such as park in the city have been more and more important to take care of the elderly. How to adapt the needs of the elderly is becoming serious.This paper investigated Changsha city park basing on environmental psychology, ergonomics, sociology of knowledge and drew the following conclusions:(1) The elderly needs to be respected and psychologically attention, social participated and interacted, so as the pursuit of health and access to information in a city park on the physiological increase sensory stimulation, enhance cognitive strength, scale suitable, appropriate physical needs.(2) The proportion of elderly men and women to park flat, most of theyoung elderly, living alone, unemployed, living less than 1km away from the park.(3) Elderly individual and group activities corresponding with the type of space,such as private spaces, semi-private/semi-public spaces and public spaces,at the same time,had relationship between activities and micro-climate and geographical layout of the facilities Older people often choose connectively route and avoid acute slope and steps in the garden.(4) Establish the appropriate elements for the elderly:the elderly pay more attentions to the ground, followed by the toilet, and the highest satisfaction of plants but lowest of the slopes of the steps.(5) Made the point of design principles and design elements for urban park. And on this basis, completed the design of the Osmanthus park in Changsha.The purpose of this study is to provide a theoretical basis and practical basis for the design of green space-oriented science in urban parks to suite the elderly. Also to achieve the perspective that the garden is social equity and ecological civilization.
