Facility layout is an important field in engineering research and practice, with the characteristics of practicability and multidisciplinary cross, also is a typical engineering problem. Whether the layout is fit directly affects the production cost and efficiency. The excellent layout can significantly reduce the accumulation of semi-finished products in workshop, lower material handling costs, shorten the transportation route, and make the product process form a good circle. Therefore, how to layout workshop equipments reasonably and effectively is crucial for manufacturing enterprises increasing productivity.First of all, on the basis of analyzing and summarizing the research situation at home and abroad of facility layout, relevant theories and methods of facility layout were introduced. By analyzing the he advantages and disadvantages of classic methods of and intelligent optimization algorithm commonly used facilities layout, combining the characteristics of facility layout, this paper used the SLP method combined with particle swarm optimization(PSO) method to research facility layout problem. Secondly, in view of the problems existing in the workshop facility layout, establish a two-objective function model which contained minimum material handling cost and maximum the degree of correlation of operating units, also has been clear about the constraints. Thirdly, the solution to solve the facility layout problem was researched, which combined the SLP method, the mathematical model and particle swarm algorithm. Then, the research methods of this article, namely SLP method based on particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm was formed. Aiming at the shortcoming of premature convergence, this paper locally used simulated annealing to improve PSO algorithm, and validated the feasibility of SAPSO algorithm. Finally, the SLP method based on particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm was applied to A workshop in M company. Aiming at the problems of A workshop, establish model, simulate experiments, and the effectiveness of the optimization project.The research results showed that, the SLP method based on particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm was applied to design workshop facility layout, not only could effectively improve production efficiency and reduce logistics cost, also provided a method for enterprises to build or rebuild workshop.
