So far, IEC61850 is the most perfect communication standards, which is the base of the digital substation, and makes it possible to be modeled standardly for the IED in the digital substation. IEC61850 make the communication protocols unitized in the process level of the substation. However, the draft of using IEC61850 for the communication between substations and control centers haven't been finished yet, and IEC60870-5-104 is using as the remote commutation protocol in the traction substation. So it would be a long period to change from non-IEC61850 systems to IEC61850 systems.To make the present control center compatible with the digital substation, the power supply system of the traction and the IEC 61850 have been studied. It's proposed to add the protocol transition function, which could exchange information from IEC61850 based data model using IEC60870-5-104.Fist of all, the main ideal of IEC61850 is introduced and analyzed in detail. And the software design of the remote communication unit based on IEC61850 is studied in theory. After the IEC60870-5-104, the mapping from IEC61850 to IEC60870-5-104 and the real time data base are studied, the exchanging information from IEC61850 based data model using IEC60870-5-104 is researched in detail. At last, the software design plan is proposed for the remote communication unit based on IEC61850, as well as the software is demonstrated.The remote communication unit software is designed based on C and the IEC61850 DLL from SystemCORP Pty Ltd, which could communicate with IED based on IEC 61850, and could communicate with the control centre based on IEC 60870-5-104.
