Reactive power compensation is used for increasing power factor, reducing loss of power supply devices and transmission lines, and improving voltage quality. From the view of economy development status in our country, the contradiction between supply and demand of power is becoming deep increasingly. Customers connected into distribution system are demanding more standards for power quality. It becomes more important to optimize and configure reactive compensation reasonably. Reasonable selection of reactive compensation device and content can reduce network loss by the greatest extent and improve power supply quality. Otherwise, unreasonable selection can cause power system voltage fluctuation, harmonic increase and so many other problems.This paper analyzed reactive compensation of distribution system in theory, exampled the importance of compensation, compared current distribution system reactive compensation mode and status systematically, defined necessary functions of key components in compensation device.On the basis of the rural-urban distribution system reactive compensation status and power load properties in Qinglong Manzu Zizhixian, this paper prompted compensation reformation plan and technical parameters of reactive compensation device. A background software to manage transformers and reactive compensation devices was developed in Java2 platform with structure of J2EE. It was easy to manage and repair the devices.Typical reactive compensation reformations with different properties were performed in different district. This paper further explained what the actual effects reactive compensation reformations caused on power factor, line loss and device management in Qinglong Manzu Zizhixian. The project feasibility was proved.Reactive compensation is one of main components in distribution system construction and reformation. Reasonable selection of compensation position and mode can maintain voltage level in effect and increase voltage stability. It's a low investment and high profit project to reduce network loss and improve voltage. The power supply enterprises'economical benefits are directly affected and influenced. So it is both inevitable and necessary to plan and fulfill reactive compensation.
