Stone masonry arch dam is an arched thrust structure, not only can make full use of rock strength on both sides, and also has the advantage of using local materials, saving labor, small amount of engineering in the early, It is a type of dam with economic, high comprehensive security, and now it plays an increasingly important role in water resources construction.Stone masonry arch dam with complex geometry, boundary conditions and stress states, therefore, prior to the building of a dam must be go on stress calculation, deformation analysis and calculation of arch dam stability analysis of structures, In order to determine the feasibility of the project.This article described the common structure analysis method:independent arch method, arch-cantilever method and finite element method. This paper expounds in application to the calculation of finite element method in calculation of arch dam stress, deformation and its shape optimization process, while also detailed the traditional approach to optimization analysis of arch dams and the Ant Colony optimization algorithm, and with the Large general purpose finite element analysis software ANSYS10.0, simulated calculation of multiple conditions was done to the planning stone masonry arch dam of fowan reservoir, Through the analysis of the results of the stress, deformation and shape optimization, then determine the design scheme, meanwhile, provides some reference for the design of the arch dam with same type and the same geological conditions.Mainly research work on this article are as follows:(1) Describes the traditional calculation methods for structure analysis of arch dam and principles and steps of the finite element method for the calculation of arch dam.(2) Parametric modeling in ANSYS10.0 environments, and make static analysis and equivalent stress analysis under various load combination to the three dimensional finite element model, at the same time, under the earthquake loads, to attach the dynamic water pressure into quality, for modal analysis of arch dam, calculation of stress and deformation during an earthquake.(3) Investigate the principle and method of optimum design of arch dam, familiar with the principles of Ant Colony optimization algorithm, written the program in C++ language based on Ant Colony algorithm for optimization of the graphic, with the finite element analysis, implement the shape optimization design of arch dam.(4) According to the results of three dimensional finite element calculation and optimization, combined with practical, provide the design basis for project implementation.
