With rapid development of science and technology, more and more complex and exact assembled devices were applied in modern product line. It is an efficient way for protecting devices and improving running efficiency by monitoring the conditions of those devices at real time, forecasting the positions and reasons of the fault in time and realizing conditions based maintenance (CBM). Therefore, vibration monitoring and fault diagnosis system was applied more and more in modern plants.Considering the high-speed wire & rod plant of Anyang Iron & Steel Group Ltd., as the investigate object, this paper introduced the development, the contents and methods and the theory of fault diagnosis system. An on-line monitoring and fault diagnosis system for Reducing Sizing Mill (RSM) was set up which is called "LeadMeasure-GX2-the device conditions monitoring System". By researching of the basic functions, structure sizes, rolling parameters, maintaining status, and the detailed fault information of the device which is monitored, the design requirements, the structure of the hardware and software, and the basic functions of on-line monitoring and fault diagnosis system was confirmed, Through the diagnosis examples in the engineer application, it can be proved the application efficiency of the diagnosis expert system. The hardware system can realize four functions such as data collecting, vibration signals pretreating, A/D transforming, and information processing. The software system runs in Windows, it realizes data share by network, and it fulfils three layers structure like data layer, operation layer and behavior layer. The system software includes data collecting module, data communication module and the signal processing-fault diagnosis module.The application of the system has played an active role in controlling the running status of the RSM, diagnosing the positions and reasons of the fault, and realizing conditions based maintenance (CBM). It can improve the device management level of the enterprise and has a wide prospect.
