Comparing four traffic noise prediction models, including highway noise prediction model from the United States Federal High Way Authority(FHWA), and the others are recommended by Chinese Transportation Ministry in Specifictions for Environmental Impact Assessment of Highway(on trial,JTJ005-96), Specifications for Environmental Impact Assessment of Highways(JTG B03-2006),and recommended by Chinese Environmental Protection Ministry in Technical Guidelines for Noise Impact Assessment(HJ2.4-2009),which have been usually used in the assessment work on environmental impact. And by analyzing the differences between each mode and monitoring the typical low-level highway and urban road, then combining the contrasting and analogy analysis on the monitoring results and prediction results, coming up to researching on the applicability of traffic noise prediction model at low-level highway and urban road.Through the analysis of real data by monitoring, it shows that the energy of noise mainly concentrates in low frequency(<500Hz), and the amout of attenuation of the high frequency traffic noise is greater than that of low frequency traffic noise. Traffic noise attenuated fast from the highway or urban road in close range, and accompanying the increase of space, the attenuation of traffic noise shows downward trend.Research on applicability of traffic noise prediction model at low-grade highway and urban road is based on comparing the monitoring results and prediction results. It shows that the FHWA model and HJ2.4 model can provide a more accurate prediction in class II and class III highways, the FHWA model and JTJ005 model can provide a more accurate prediction in urban sub-arterial roads when the traffic flow is more than 800 vehicles per hour, the FHWA model and HJ2.4 model can provide a more accurate prediction in urban sub-arterial roads when the traffic flow is less than 100 vehicles per hour, and all of these models have biggish error in urban sub-arterial roads when the traffic flow is between 100 vehicles per hour and 800 vehicles per hour. After a detailed literature review and the analysis of the real data by monitoring, the HJ2.4 model was revised.
