With the rapid development of domestic high-rise buildings, there is a trend that high-rise buildings are being higher, more complex, more functional and more comprehensive these years. Horizontal loads are more effective with high-rise buildings. Lateral displacements of structures become a main control indicator during the design process. Many previous researches have put forward a view point that lateral displacements of structures could be reduced effectively with appropriate settings of strengthened stories. Many problems could happen during setting strengthened stories. Therefore, it is very significant for engineering design to study the mechanical behaviors and failure characteristics of this kind of structure system. Many conclusions about effects of structures with strengthened stories have already been obtained. However, there are few researches about complex high-rise buildings with strengthened. And this paper is a try to probe it.Based on the finite element software ANSYS, the 3-D model of a 45-storey frame-core tube structure with step-back has been built at the beginning. Then, structures with different options of positions and numbers are designed. Finally, a few resaults are obtained through mode analysis, elastic time history analysis and elastic-plastic time history analysis. Mode analysis shows how strengthened stories effect dynamic characteristics of the structure. Elastic time history analysis shows how strengthened stories effect displacements and internal forces of the structure. Elastic-plastic time history analysis shows how strengthened stories effect the ductility of the structure. In the end, I hope the several conclusions in this paper could be the basis for designs of the same kind high-rise buildings.
