Started from the mid and late 1990s, the education system of our country carried on the reform. Therefore the new round university investment and the construction upsurge has started around the country. However, the campus culture presented the crisis accompanying the campus construction. As a result, it is led to the monotony of the new campus landscape and the disappearance of the old campus landscape feature. It is the focal point of this thesis that how to transmit the historical cultural prints of the historical campus and create the campus with vitality and distinguishing features, at the same time to satisfy the new needs of the times.In this thesis, historical campus of university and college is the area that occupying an important position in the development history of the university and college campus, having a certain scale, character and style, representing historical developing thread, and reflecting the features of campus centralized.Firstly, this thesis reviews both chinese and western development process of university and college accompanying the change of campus environment landscape, and arranges research information relating campus landscape. Based on those, the thesis concludes three types of factor affecting campus landscape, those are social factor, natural factor and humanistic factor. Each type of factor includes several areas of influence. Next, the thesis analyses the functions of the campus landscape and the expressional foundation about the cultural connotation of it. After introducing the compositional elements of campus environmental landscape from space, architecture and green-space three levels, the study gives the introductions of Nanjing Forests University Xinzhuang campus, Southeast University Sipailou campus, Nanjing Normal University Suiyuan campus and Nanjing Art Institute Huju Road campus. At last, based on the research, the thesis concludes the methods and tips that how does elements of landscape express campus culture, and sums up eight principles that how to design and construct characteristic campus environment landscape, those are Systematicness, Humanistic, Culturality, Characteristic, Ecological, Thematic, Educational and Participative.Campus culture of university and college is an open and developing system. It absorbs the new culture, thoughts and connotation of times and integrates the new one that shows the epoch features, and all these are based on the continuation of the existing campus culture and tradition. As the campus culture show carrier, campus environment landscape is an open and developing system, too. The expression of campus landscape characteristic will be constantly added new methods in practice.
