As the most important energy sources in the world, oil is the lifeline of the national economy, which connecting closely in our life. By measuring the length of the oil line pipe, we can easily grasp the progress of the oil collection and adjust the production technology in time. So the accurate measurement of the length of the oil line pipe becomes particularly important.At present, the most oilfield companies using traditional artificial pulling feet to measure the length of the oil line pipe. It not only has intensity labor, low efficiency, but also has low accuracy. For this situation, this paper presents a laser range finder on length of oil line pipe. It has a high accuracy, additionally it also has many well functions, such as real-time measure, display, calculate, store, reappear. Moreover, it can be easily carrying, and against pollution powerfully, so it can adapt the harsh environment of the oilfield easily.The paper describes the principle of the instrument, the design ideas and technical details and so on. And it also introduces the development of the hardware and software system of the instrument. For hardware system, it choose STC12C5A60S2 MCU (Micro Control Unit) as the control chip, domestic DAYOU laser rang finder as ranging module which has a measurement range from 0.1m to 80m and accuracy reach to 2mm,and use CH452 to achieve the key scan function, KM-12864 LCD (Liquid crystal display) to display the measurement date, E2PROM belongs to MCU to store the data which can save resources, and reduce the cost. In addition, it chooses serial communication to send the data to PC. The software system consists of two parts: Lower computer and PC. For lower computer software system, it uses C programming language to program on KeilĪ¼Vision4 environment. For PC software system, it chooses LabVIEW as graphical programming tools to achieve the representation of the measurement data and uses form pattern to store data. Finally, analyze the measuring data of the instrument and find it meet the accuracy of requirements absolutely, then test the repeatability and stability of it which has a good performance.The research on the laser range finder on length of oil line pipe has changed the domestic backward status of the oil line pipe measuring and it means so much to the entire oil industry.
