With advantages of rugged structure, low cost, high fault-tolerant capability, heat-resistant capability and high speed capability, switched reluctance machine (SRM) is under development for variable speed applications. One of its most obvious advantages is the high efficiency over a very wide speed range, which makes SRM very suitable for wind power applications. High generating performances can be achieved over a wide wind speed rang. Many domestic and abroad scholars have focused on switched reluctance wind power system recently, SRM has become an important branch in the family of wind power system. This dissertation mainly studies on the control system of switched reluctance generator for a small wind power system, the purpose is to find a good solution for the control system. Based on the generating principles of SRM, both simulation and experiment approach will be used to study the operating characteristics and control performance of switched reluctance wind power system. This dissertation will be divided into six parts. In the introduction part, the basic data of the world wind energy industry and the development of domestic small wind power system are both introduced, some advantages of switched reluctance generator in wind power system are also discussed. Chapter II studies the basic generating principles of SRM, and control strategies and current control mode are discussed in details. Based on chapter II, the third chapter provides a preliminary control system design, and the simulation system is constructed with MATLAB, the control parameters then are optimized to achieve the maximum efficiency, various operating conditions are simulated at the end of chapter III. Chapter IV describes implementation of the control system, both hardware and software implementations are included. Position sensor, sampling circuit, power converter circuit are discussed in hardware implementation, however, software implementation focus on the main loop, current chopping control and commutation control. Finally, system control strategy is verified and analyzed by experiment. Chapter V summarizes the control performances and operating characteristics of the control system, conclusions and further improvements are both proposed.
