In modern large-scale and complex power systems, it's difficult to find the fault as soon as possible and accurately. Existing levels of power grid dispatching department is equipped with Energy Management System (EMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. They which have the characteristics of large amount of data and selectivity, has clearly been unable to satisfy the daily monitoring of power system dispatcher's needs. This article introduces a set of intelligent alarm and fault location system which is based on the existing data acquisition system. The system combines logical analysis of the protection information / SOE (Sequence of Event) and analytical analysis of fault recorder in one. It provides decision support to quickly deal with fault, restore power supply and the development of equipment maintenance schedule. We put forward a technical idea of "distribution, self management" for the system which has the problem of low accuracy of the basic data, And change the "state estimation of centralized dispatch center "to" two distributed state estimation of substation - dispatch center". Using inherent advantages of real-time information highly redundant in substation, to resolve the main data errors in substation, which explored the fundamental method to improve accuracy of the basic data.Through the study of software module about intelligent alarm and fault analysis, to achieve a multi-source information fusion technology based on protection signal,SOE,SCADA data, PMU data and fault recorder data, and create a hierarchical fault analysis system. It combined with practical, uses a variety of visualization methods to display network fault conditions. Meanwhile, the module also provides a fault inversion function for scheduling on the grid in the history for studies.
