Face gear is a new gear drive.It is one kind of transmissions that is face gear meshing with the cylindrical gear.This gear drive has many unique advantages, such as it is insensitive to the axial error; large transmission ratio; transmission smooth; compact; cylindrical pinion gear machining technology maturation and so on. Precision machining of face gear drive can replace the bevel gear and hypoid gears, and simplify the structure of its transmission, therefore, it has a broad market prospect. As the military background of face gear, the research and experiment are in the technological blockade state. The subject of this article are curved tooth face gear, which is a new type of face gear tooth. Results of this research are as follows:This article first establishes mathematical model of the involute helical cylindrical gear's tooth surface. According to the math differential geometry and spatial meshing theory, derive mathematical model of curved tooth face gear. Import the discrete points that are calculated by the mathematical model into the three dimensional software, and establish three dimensional solid model of the involute helical gear and curved tooth face gear.This article has derived the contact trace and its related contact ellipse formula of curved tooth face gears with involutes'helical gear, which provide the basis for subsequent optimization of tooth. In addition to the theoretical derivation of tooth contact analysis, This article also imported the three-dimensional model that is assembled by curved tooth face gears and involutes cylindrical helical gear to the ANSYS finite element contact analysis software. This paper makes the compare theoretical analysis with software analysis.Because the existing processing method of the curved tooth face gear is free-form surfaces machining, this has a low processing efficiency, high cost disadvantage. Based on the thought of "production-shaped wheel", this article designs a molding method of flake milling cutter. This processing method is simulated in VERICUT CNC simulation software to verify the feasibility.This article is intended primarily for the analysis and discussion on the curved tooth face gear tooth surfaces, mesh features, the processing methods and other aspects, which is laying the foundations for future broader application of face gear.
