The curved tooth face gear drive is a new gear transmission and it has morewidespread application prospect in higher reliable request equipment of nationaldefense and other aspects. This paper studied the curved tooth face gear drive with theinvolute cylindrical worm and formed the surface of the face gear and the worm basedon theory of gearing. A three-dimensional model of the curved tooth face gear wasbuilt through three different methods. Contact trajectory of the face gear drive wasalso researched under the condition of installation error. On this basis, the dynamiccontact process of the curved tooth face gear transmission pair was studied byABAQUS.Based on the surface equation of the involute cylindrical worm, the equation ofthe face gear was deduced by the theory of gearing. In addition, the situation ofundercutting and topping was discussed. Then the3D model of the face gear wasestablished through the methods of parameter modeling and indirect modeling.Comparing the two methods, the advantages and disadvantages of them wereanalyzed. Finally, a new numerical method which was suitable for the curved toothface gear modeling was put forward. In the contact analysis process of the curved tooth face gear transmission pair, surface contact equations which contained the offset error, the axial error, angle errorwere deduced. The face gear tooth surface meshing track was obtained when theindividual error changed through computer programming. Finally, the numerical modeling method was applied to modeling of the fishingreel, which was a curved tooth face gear transmission. The assembly model of thefishing reel was imported to the finite element analysis software ABAQUS. Then facegear tooth surface contact stress, force and area in dynamic meshing condition werefurther studied. In conclusion, it was proved to be feasible for numerical modelingmethod through the analysis of the results.
