Nowadays, the Chinese traditional culture is increasingly embodied in design.However, as for traditional culture of geomancy, people are always examining it withdubious attitude. Some regard it as superstition, and some think that it is science. Infact, ancient geomancy is the art of arranging buildings and areas in a good or luckyposition. It is the basis and method of choosing position and layout design for ancientcities, villages, and civil houses. Therefore, lucky layout of geomancy is rationalliving environment.The reason why this dissertation is entitled geomancy is that people from ancienttimes have inhabited by water, and water is a significant element of modern landscapedesign and geomancy. Most waterscape design ideas in modern landscape are westernor the traditional way of using water in landscape architecture. However, the researchand application of water forms and water rules are almost blank. In order to make theplanning and design of modern water landscape have rules to follow, this essay willoffer an instructive, reasonable designing method and principle by concluding andexploring water forms and water rules in traditional culture of geomancy andcombining with designing concept of water landscape in modern landscape, method ofChinese landscape gardening and water rules. Furthermore, this dissertation willunveil the logic of water forms and water rules in traditional geomancy. It will be anunveiling process of anthroponomy and world view and also have fundamentalmeaning for modern landscape design.
