China is one of the four great ancient civilizations with long and civilized history of five thousand years,which not only stands proudly on the cultural stage of the word,but also provides a unique cultural foundation for the Chinese classical garden.However,under the impact of foreign culture,modern landscape design is losing its own individuality by copying the style of foreign landscape and rifting with the current,which put our classic landscape in the chaos,not to mention displaying the tr aditional unique Chinese culture.Against this dire background of our landscape design,how to inherit the essences of traditional garden culture and at the same time to innovate to meet the practical and aesthetic needs of modern life is the primary consideration of landscape architects.Zhongshan is a national,historical and cultural city with a history of more than 850 years,rich in historical and cultural resources,with beautiful natural and cultural landscape complement.Zhongshan is also rich in traditional cultural resources including regional cultural resources which can be used as creative resources in the modern urban garden design inspiration.The application of C hinese traditiona l cult ure in modern landscape design was classified and analyzed.The garden ideas,layout techniques,architectural features,small garden ornaments were also analyzed based on field research of the Zhan Garden,Pan Lu,Tsinghua Square and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Ha ll.Finally,in order to provide reference to other cities to construct the urban garden landscape with cult ural characteristics,the method of constructing landscape in Zhongs han were discussed in the paper.The main results were as follows:(1)China traditional culture is rich in content,including C hinese t raditional color,China traditional pattern,C hina traditional modeling,Chinese C hina traditional calligraphy,traditional painting,C hinese classical garden,C hina traditional aesthetics,Confucianism,Buddhism,Taoism theory and geomantic theory.(2)Zhan Garden embodied the style of Jiangnan Garden and Lingnan Garden,and also fully embodied the idea of garden-making in C hinese classical gardens,and displayed the C hinese traditiona l plastic arts through abundant garden pieces;as modern residential are as,the traditiona l flavor of the new C hinese style was used both in Pan Lu and Tsinghua Square.Through to the met iculous waterfront approach,Pan Lu highlighted the Lingnan region of water landscape.Tsinghua Square was a combination of C onfuc ianism and C hinese traditiona l houses.As a monumental garden places,Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall fully reflected the local geomantic theory,based on the former residence of Sun Yat-sen to create,restored the the local folk customs and architectural features,combined with tradit ional C hinese crafts and modeling that highlighted the spirit of the scenic connotation.(3)The application of traditional culture in the landscape of Zhongshan embodied the design principles of insisting on adapting to local folk custom and making full use of local resources and sustainable development.The following ideas and suggestions on the shaping of Zhongshan landscape with traditional cultural features were put forward.Firstly,refining the regional traditional culture features of Zhongshan and creatively expressing the characteristics of regional traditional culture.Secondly,deepening the expression of traditional culture in modern garden design,such as transformation,reproduction,reference and retention.Thirdly,organically comb ining C hinese traditional culture and modern technology of C hinese traditional culture in the application of elements,based on the combination of modern technology and materials,do not rigidly adhere to the traditions of the traditional form and traditio nal materials,in order to achieve the combination of traditional and modern functions.
