Since the San Fernando earthquake happened in California, United States in 1971,the method based on structure's ductility has gradually take the place of the method basedon structure's strength and become the main method in a lot of countries'bridge engi-neering anti-seismic design code. Now, in many developed countries'bridge engineeringanti-seismic design code, such as America and Japan etc, the method based on structure'sductility is the main design theory.After WenChuan 5.12 Earthquake, Ministry of Transport of the P. R. China publishesthe new anti-seismic design specification, whose name is <Guidelines for Seismic Designof Highway Bridges>. In new specification, it is the first time for our nation to use theconcept of anti-seismic design based on ductility; it makes the change from elastic designtheory to the plastic design theory. However, before that, our country had used the 89specification for almost 20 years. In the 89 specification, using the safety parameterCz,it does not only ignore the importance of structure's ductility in anti-seismic, but alsothere is not any estimating method for the existed structure's ductility. Therefore, to a lotof bridges in the place where earthquake often happens, how to use a scientific way toanalyze their anti-seismic capacity and to reinforce the ones whose ductility can't meetthe requirements, it is an important research question for all the researchers who works inStructure Seismic Engineering.Through the research work based on the ductility design method and understandsthe essential of the bridge ductility anti-seismic design theory, this text gives the com-puter program"anti-seismic safety estimating to the armored concrete pier"by using Clanguage and combining the character of the bridges in our nation. Also, this text givesthe estimating method for the RC piers with rectangular cross-section. To the piers whoseability of anti-seismic are not enough according to the new specification, this text willsupport a new composites-PUFA, which is invented by our research team; finally, thistext will prove that PUFA can improve the pier's safe ability of anti-seismic by the theorycalculating. The main work is as follows:1.Using the relations between stress and strain of steel and concrete, derives the re-lation between section's bending moment and curvature(M-Φcurve) in the rectangular cross-section; establishes the relations between the bridge's horizontal force and hori-zontal displacement(P-Δcurve) in the RC bridge pier structure; makes the RC pier anti-seismic safety estimating computer program by using the anti-seismic design theory basedon ductility;2.By the numerical simulation of the RC pier experiment, it proves the right of thecomputer program in estimating the RC pier anti-seismic safety;3.Introducing the material and mechanic character of new composites PUFA, whichis invented by our research team, by the experiments, gives the constitute relationship ofinner concrete with PUFA outside, supporting the testimony for the next analysis.4.By the numerical simulation of the RC pier using the PUFA to reinforce it, provesthat PUFA have a excellent e?ect on the seismic reinforcement.
