With the development of science and technology, the competition of our auto market is more fierce , more and more researchers began to study the car for lightweight. The car's lightweight research is not only important for manufactures in cost saving, but also has an important significance on saving fuel and improving the efficiency of semi-trailer transport.The frame is the basic part of Van Semi-trailer, the existing frame is made by high-strength steel. Optimizing the structure of frame in ensuring it's strength and stiffness. Reducing the weight of frame and improving it's dynamic performance.Analysing the design feature of Van Semi-trailer starting with it's original structure, and build model of semi-trailer, then analyse the original frame with Finite element analysis software, research the result of the type of beams through and beams non-through frame at last.Using variable density method of topology optimization to optimize the result of Finite element analysis for original frame. Optimizing the structure of frame with topology optimization, Analysis of the results of topology optimization, three solutions of frame are given, do series researching for the solutions, then choose the best, the result meet the design requirements. Compared with original frame, the new frame is lighten nearly 12%.
