With the constant development of china's trailer manufacturing, the market of trailer is extremely competitive. For manufacturers, with the semi-trailer frame to meet the adequate strength and stiffness,the lightweight of frame will bring greater competitive advantage and profits.In this paper, Finite Element Method was applied to analyze the structural of semi-trailer frame, Making use of the Finite element platform will analyze the frame's different conditions of strength and stiffness. First,the paper introduce the basic concepts,theories of the analysis of FEA and the steps of Finite element analysis,And then introduce the software Altair Hyperworks of finite element analysis. Next by the simplifying for frame, use CATIA software to build a three-dimensional solid model for semi-trailer frame,then import the three-dimensional model of the frame toHypermesh of CAE software and confirm the boundary condition, loading, meshing, calculation and post-processing,figure out Maximum stress and strain base on the four typical semi-trailer chassis,at last assess the strength and stiffness of the frame structure.Second,according to Modal Analysis and Calculation,we got that the natural frequencies and modes of vibration for overall response analysis providing important modal parameters.The analysis indicates that it reach up to the demands of frame designing and prepares reference for statical and dynamical response in the future.Finally,the light-weight research of frame was executing by Optimization software Optistruct. After simply describing some theories of structure optimization. We carried on the analysis of shape and size optimization in Optistruct by setting the optimization variables, objective function and Constraint function, and then obtained the optimized results that the weight of frame is lighter than the original,achieved a light-weight design.
