In recent years,with the development of the lightweight and the improved requirement of economical in automobile industry,more and more new materials,such as plating thin steel, aluminum alloy, reinforced plastics,composites and so on were used in the the body of the car. The traditionalspot-welding for joining them is almost powerless.so, self-piercing riveting(SPR) is creasingly valued.The thesis gives a review on the self-piercing riveting, including its forming equipment,quality judgement,research status home and abroad.A 2D axisymmetric numberical model of self-piercing riveting is created,in the meanwhile,several key technologies are recounted and its forming process using the finite element code ANSYS/LS-DYNA is simulated. On the basis of the introduction the parameters of riveting model and the riveting process. The four stages of SPR process according to the simulation are analysed. Through comparing the cross-section shapes of simulation with these experimental tests, the correctness of the simulation is virified.The geometric parameters of the self-piercing riveting, including the diameter and depth of lower die and the parameters of the leg of the rivet are studied. Through the combination of their different values,the reasonable solution was obtained,which may provide a reference for practical application。The thesis investigate the method of 3D numerical simulation of the self-piercing riveting process using code ANSYS/LS-DYNA,some method of simplifying model is put forward.
