Arresting gear of carrier aircraft is an important auxiliary equipment of aircraft carrier, achieving safe landing of carrier aircraft on the ship deck of limited length. Arresting cable is an important part of arresting gear, which passes enormous kinetic energy of aircraft to arresting gear under the deck. Working condition of arresting cable is the worst, and dynamic process is the most complex. Dynamic characteristic of arresting cable affects performance of arresting system directly. Now the research on arresting gear is still at the primary stage. During the analysis and simulation of arresting system, most attention is focused on analysis and modeling of hydraulic system, but the research and simulation of dynamic characteristic of arresting cable is very little.After arresting cable is impacted transversely by the tail hook of carrier aircraft, stress wave is formed. Formation and propagation of stress wave of arresting cable is analyzed. Fundamental equations of stress waves are obtained by means of theoretical analysis. Based on the equation of stress wave, important characteristic parameters (longitudinal wave velocity, transverse wave velocity, kink wave velocity and kink wave angle) of stress wave is studied. Propagation of stress wave is analyzed by the explicit-dynamic-simulation software LS-DYNA, and dynamic effect of arresting cable after instantaneous impact is simulated. Simulation results of characteristic parameters of stress wave are close to the results of theoretical analysis.When arresting system is working, movement of arresting cable is very complex, and elastic deformation in multiple degrees of freedom arises. Based on the idea of rigid body discretization and using multi-body dynamics and rope dynamic theory, dynamic simulation model of arresting cable is established by mechanical dynamic software ADAMS. The model of arresting cable simulates extension, bending, twisting and the elastic deformation in other degrees of freedom using linear bushing, and achieves parametric modeling by CMD language. Based on fundamental elasticity, elasticity coefficient of arresting cable in multiple degrees of freedom is analyzed.Dynamic simulation of arresting cable requires a combination with the hydraulic system of arresting gear. Through the analysis of the hydraulic system, the mathematical model is determined. Based on the mathematical model, a simulation model of hydraulic system is built through complex-system-simulation software AMESim. Using popular technology of combined simulation, ADAMS model of arresting cable and AMESim model of hydraulic system can be simulated together.Simulation curves on different situations is analyzed,and important parameters which influencc tcnsion of arresting cablce and other prtformance index is studied.
