Substation comprehensive automation system is based and developed on modern computer technology, data communications technology, modular software technology, it is a set of protection, measurement, control and remote control system in one computer. System is mainly consisted of a number of computer units, communication networks, back office machines, printers and other equipments. Compared with the previous traditional substation its connecting line is very simple and easy solution to the traditional substation. It can easily solve problems of the secondary system of the tranditional substation, improve the power supply reliability, adapted to the modern development of production and energy management requirements.For 220kV and above voltage level of substation, to serve the power system security, to run economically as the center. Through advanced computer technology, communication technology, the new protection and control technology used to provide technical support to address the past can be resolved substation monitoring, control issues, and promote the professional technical, management, cooperation and coordination. It provides the basis for the further development of grid automation, improve the substation safe, reliable and stable operation. Cancel routine protection measurement monitoring, control panel for new substation for the full realization of substation automation, fewer people on duty to achieve a gradual transition to unattended; to achieve echnological innovation for the old substation control, monitoring and other measurements aiming for less and no person on duty purposes.This paper introduce the development and structure features of integrated substation automation system, to explore its significance in wind energy applications and functional configuration requirements. Focused on information technology and substation automation trends and realize the need for substation automation systems and superiority. For substation automation three hardware structures: centralized, distributed and hierarchical distributed were analyzed and compared. Through the first and secondary systems analysis,combined with integrated automation design principles, desiged substation automation system programs, including secondary equipment protection and control, remote monitoring systems and computer design, communication systems etc.. Through detailed analysis of major equipments, to the whole of the substation automation system provides a specific and powerful framework for support. Under the market research, it is carried out a reasonable selection and configuration, improved the product part of which does not meet the site requirements, finally fulfilled the design and research to this integrated automation system.At present, the wind farm has been put into operation, and run well. Proven experience of test results prove that the design of this integrated automation system not only meets the requirements of substation s high precision control, but also has characters of being quick response, reliable data transmission, scalable, easy to maintain and other notable features.
