With the development of industrial society, the electrical system relay protection has to meet more strict demands. Computer has been used widely in power system relay protection areas along with the rapid updating of computer technology. Among the research on microcomputer relay protection of power supply system, the study and application of transformer relay protection attracts the most attention.The specialization of power consumption of industrial enterprises and the increase of resident electric consumption in Shengli oil field requires more reliable and safer power supply system. In order to guarantee the power supply, power boost transformation program has been carried out at substations under Shengli oil field bureau, and it cost two years for35KV Tuo9substation accomplishing this upgrading. The traditional relay protection is updated to microcomputer relay protection, which improves many performances of the traditional devices such as slow response, low sensitivity, poor aseismatic function and wear in moveable parts. It also significantly increase and ensure the operation stability of power gridsIn this paper, development stage of transformer relay protection is introduced briefly and transformer computer protection system is systemically studied. Firstly, the problems exist in35KV Tuo9substation relay protection system are analysed. After sketching relay protection configuration of main transformers in the new110KV Tuo9substation, fix value settings of relay protection system are discussed at length, and the advantages in respect of relay protection in the upgraded Tuo9substation are summarized. Furthermore, existing relay protection problems of reformed main transformers are analysed through accidents study, and appropriate measures were suggested. In the end of the paper, reform plan for digital relay protection in upgraded Tuo9substation are put forward.
