As a new signal source, the Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) is developping rapidly, and now it has become one of the widely used equipments in the field of underwater acoustic engineering. In this paper, based on ARM and Windows CE5.0 operating system (OS), there develops a portable and low-power AWG with friendly man-machine interface. The system design idea is proposed based on the analysis of the design requirements. ARM processor is chosen as the core device and Windows CE5.0 as the embedded OS. By using the EVC to make a graphical interface for display and control, the design of modules used to generate and collect waveform datum is realized. In this thesis, the hardware platform chosen by the AWG is first introduced. The S3C2440A chip which is chosen as the core controller can communicate with the UDA1341TS by the I2S bus. Then, after the customization and programming of the Windows CE is finished, the graphic interface application is programmed using the EVC to achieve the function of signal generation and collection by calling the low-level audio functions and the waveform will be drawn on the screen of the LCD.At the end of the dissertation, the experimental results are summarized and analysed. As known in the test results, The AWG designed in this thesis can generate not only frequency-variable, amplitude-adjustable waveforms such as sine-wave, triangle-wave, sawtooth-wave, square-wave but also some more complex signals like LFM, CW pulse and white noise. In addition, It has the function of acquisition and can draw the frequency spectrum diagram and time-domain graph. And it can meet the design requirements foundationally. The feasibility and reliability of the scheme proposed in this dissertation is proved.
