Along with the boosting market demand, the issued environmental laws and regulations and gradually strengthening environmental consciousness of people, green design had gradually become the only way for multitudinous enterprise to seek for sustainable development. The idea of sustainable development had put into the product design process by Green design. And the ecological environment and economic development were connected as an organic whole of each other. Because the green performance of product mainly was reflected through all the attributes of the environmental protection to material, material selection had been occupying important position in green design. Green material selection was an important processes and methods of implementing green product design, and it was an important means of improving the environmental performance of the products and reducing the degree of product's life cycle environmental influencing.The status and development trends of green design and material selection methods were reviewed in this paper, and the basic concepts, basic principles and importance and so on of green selection method were cleared. Considering the universal applicability of various engineering material and the general steps for material selection, the structure of the system for green design selection was established. On the basis of considering of the basic attributes of the technical performance (material mechanical properties, process performance), economic performance, the material green attribute and environmental attributes, the 3d levels material selection method based on the green design had put forward in this paper. The principle, the model and the basic characteristics of the three-dimensional level method of material selection based on green design were discussed the in this paper. The basic concepts and specific assessment process of the evaluation method of the green material selection were discussed in this paper. The secondary fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model based on green design for hierarchical analysis excellent-choosing of material had put forward. Taking the carding machine typed FA206B for example, the feasibility of the model was verified. The material database supporting material selection and evaluation was established in the paper. The CAD-MSA for green material selection system in green design was developed in this paper. The overall framework for the CAD-MSA for green material selection system was established, which were mainly consisted of modules of the material selection, the material inquiring and the basic property of it, the evaluation of comprehensive performance of material. Through the study of supporting environment for the developing system, some key technologies were applied to the supporting environment for SQL.Server and ASP.NET which was programmed by the language of C#. Taking the material selection of the carding machine typed FA206B for example, satisfactory results were obtained.
