Mechanical stereo garage, which is an effective solution to the problem of parking difficulty in cities, has become an inevitable trend in the development of garage. This paper discussed the control system design of a vertically lifting garage which used linear motor as transversely move device, aimed to realize wholly automatic, safe and reliable operation.The paper firstly made deep researches of development status of mechanical stereo garage at home and abroad, its advantages and disadvantages, types and existing problems of its development in our country. After comprehensive considerations of various factors, vertically lifting type was chosen. Then the general structure of stereo garage was introduced, and structure and working principle of lifting device and transversely move device were expounded in detail. In the meantime, the operating principle of the stereo garage is generally analyzed, such as positioning principle, speed control, working process, etc.The paper mainly focused on the research of hardware and software design of the control system. According to the requirements of design of the control system, a hardware solution of control system based on PLC was established, and its parts such as S7-300, S7-200, transducer and communication interface system were detailedly introduced. As for software design, firstly its specific goal was set, and then the overall software architecture was discussed. Furthermore, principles and program flows of some basic functions were explained, and also means of operation protection for both lifting device and transversely move device were introduced. As communication is a very important part of control system actually, communication protocol and specific implementation of the communication system were discussed.
