Because of the advantages of simple structure, large starting torque, high power density, easy maintenance and good speed performance, the permanent magnet brushless DC motor (BLDCM) has been widely used in aerospace, precision instruments, automotive electronics and household appliances and other fields. At present, a great deal of study on BLDCM and control has been done by domestic and foreign researchers, but the most of advanced control strategies research on BLDCM institutes stays at the phase of theory and off-line simulation. The result is warp from the reality, and is difficult to apply to the actual application. The traditional control schemes of motor are always achieved in the way of program, but the period of the project is long, and the process is complex. While the semi-physical body simulation based on dSPACE can significantly accelerate the development pace. Combining with RTI and RTW, dSPACE can realize the real-time C code auto generating from the Simulink model to the real-time processor. With ControlDesk, it is easy to facilitate the variables management and parameters online debugging. In this papaer, the control strategies of PI control, fuzzy-PI control and direct torque control (DTC) of BLDCM have been in-depth resrarched both by off-line simulation and online experiment based on the dSPACE real-time system.The classic PI control algorithm, with the advantages of real-time and easy to implement, has been widely used in motor control. So the article first researched on the PI control scheme of BLDC on the builted experimental platform. However, PI control depends on the co-ordination between its coefficient, thus it is sensitive to system parameter changes. While fuzzy-PI controller has the dual advantages of PI controller and fuzzy controller. So this paper presents a comparative simulation and experimental studies, related to PI and fuzzy PI speed control in BLDCM to verify the superiority of fuzzy PI control algorithm and its feasibility. The torque ripple and dynamic response of BLDCM received widely attention both at home and abroad, while DTC in BLDCM is less, thus a number of exploratory research on DTC of BLDCM has been done in this paper. The control strategy is verified with both simulations and experiments.
