With the outstanding advantages of good speed performance, simple control, highpower density, Permanent Magnet Brushless Direct Current Motor (BLDCM) has beenwidely recognized and well used since it came into being. There are different controlrequirements of motor operating characteristic in different application, the exploitation oftraditional control algorithms has two methods, one is off-line simulation, which has largeerror comparing from experimental results. Another is in-circuit programming, which istime-consuming and expensive. Hardware-in-the-loop simulation technology based ondSPACE makes it simple and available. Therefore, a1kW BLDCM is taken as researchsubjects, and then a control system testing platform based on dSPACE is estimated to studycontrol strategies of BLDCM.Firstly, there is an elaboration on the structure, operating principle and governingcharacteristics of BLDCM in this paper. Next, a mathematical model of BLDCM isanalyzed in detail. On that basis, a simulation model of double closed loop control systemon BLDCM is established. And then the model is emulated in open-loop and close-loopcondition. The simulation results indicate that voltage-current double closed loop can limitthe starting current which produces great impact to motor, but there is a large torque rippleon commutation time. For this reason, direct torque control (DTC) is applied in theBLDCM to weaken torque ripple. Aiming at that stator magnetic is difficult to be observed,a simplified DTC is put forward. And simulation result indicates that DTC is able tosuppress torque ripple on commutation time effectively.Finally, hardware circuits of the control system based on dSPACE is designed. And anexperimental research on control strategy of BLDCM is implemented. the experimentalresult show that control strategy research method based on Hardware-in-the-loopsimulation technology of dSPACE is available.
