In the face of the problems of urban spread, traffic congestion and environment pollution caused by city development pattern of single center, many domestic and foreign cities choose the development pattern of multi-center group. Arterial road network is significant to guide city's reasonable and healthy development and promote the formation of multi-center group. Arterial road network's layout method and strategy are put forward in this paper based on multi-center group city's characteristic.First of all, the paper summarized urban land distribution and arterial road network's characteristics, and then introduced the two typical multi-center group city of Holland Randstad and Paris, pointed out the multi-center group development pattern is an important trend in the world, and analyzed arterial road network's traffic characteristics.Secondly, the paper used the improved node important degree method for group level, and took function classification of arterial road network and got the classification results by selecting the corresponding evaluation index based on the characteristics of functional level, traffic flow, road, network and land use.In the part of arterial road network layout, the paper firstly analyzed the transit mode and layout pattern of arterial road network, and then arterial road network layout strategy based on the guidance was put forward, and coordination evaluation model of arterial road network layout and city development was constructed. Finally, through the analysis of Foshan's arterial road network layout, multi-center group city's arterial road network layout strategy and method was summarized.
